Perennial undershrub, erect, up to 60 cm tall, woody, branched, glabrous, succulent, stout. Stem not jointed. Leaves rudimentary, subglobular to pyriform, surrounding the stem looking like curious swollen fleshy nodes. Inflorescence a panicle of short dense spikes. Perianth fleshy, red, segments 3. Stamens 3. Stamens 1-2 Stigmas 2. Fruit a utricle included within the perianth.
N.E. Africa, Nubia, Saudi Arabia to Pakistan. The Farasan Islands(Farasan Al-Kabir-Sajid).
Flowering Period: June-August.
